Meet Lorrel Mahomed

Ms. L. Mahomed is a visionary, dynamic, experienced and qualified HR Professional. In addition to 22 years’ experience, it is complimented by academic credits, namely: BCOM (Honours) in Human Resource Management: MANCOSA (2017), National Diploma in Human Resource Management: UNISA (2009) and Certificate in Management Services: Tshwane University of Technology (2003).

Her genius is being an insight excavator, meaning she can easily and quickly identify patterns in human behaviour data, draw insights and create action. This has led to being a key sort after Human Resource professional whose role is to provide strategic advisory, design and planning within the Human Resources discipline, having served and continue to serves in numerous leadership positions. A glimpse into highlights of accomplishments include the conceptualisation and implementation of the first recognition and reward program, developed and led the implementation of job profiling, models and salary grading structures, organisation design/redesign and business efficiency remodelling within the Provincial sphere of government.

Passionate about connecting and aiding people and organisations by co-working and designing Human Resource focussed future planning and individual development strategies and programmes, Ms Mahomed has aligned her personal, business and professional abilities with a social responsibility. She has volunteered as a Youth cultural exchange facilitator with Destiny Au Pairs (2018 – 2020). During that period, 5 young girls were aided to undertake a two-year work, study, and travel journey in the USA through the process of portfolio development, self-awareness and development coaching. Ms Mahomed’s roles included mentoring young females through their self-development journey towards undertaking experiences that helps craft their future selves.

Currently, serving as School Governing Body (SGB) Chairperson of an all-girls school based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, Gordon Road Girls School since 2021.  The first female Chairperson in the history of this 111-year institution! Her role as Chairperson included governance and oversight of SGB mandated school operations. To date, her accomplishments and contributions through collaborative effort during her tenure include the appointment of the second black female Principal in the history of the school, the widening of technology in the education curriculum, development of all governance related policies, the formalization and standardization of all School Governing Body (SGB) Educator and Non-Educator job profiles and responsibilities, alignment and standardization of employment contracts, salary and benefit structures as well as numerous repair and maintenance of school infrastructure to advance the schooling experience for the girl child and build confident future females.
